Mary is 5 (and has been for a month)

We had a sweet little party with family to celebrate her 5th birthday! I was just looking back through the pictures on my camera and saw these:

She had a great time and got a new little pet fish, who she named Swimmy, and lots of other fun presents. She had pink cupcakes with pink icing at her request. I know I say this with every age update post but I can't believe it's been 5 years!

Quotable

The other day we were reading through Love You Forever. We got to the part where the boy grows up and gets a house of his own...
Mary: someday I will get a house of MY own!
Mary's friend: me too!
Noah: I will just stay with my mommy forever.

Yes! Can I get that in writing???

Lately he thinks it's really funny to wipe off my kisses or run from me when I try to kiss him. But he also wants cuddle time every night before bed. And it has to be in my bed with the covers snuggled up over us, otherwise it doesn't count. I think he may be trying to prolong bedtime at this point. But he's so cute and sincere about it I can't say no:)

Quotable

I was getting ready to take the kids to a friends house for our mini homeschool co-op and she had called to say there was a big, mean looking dog outside her house with no leash and no owner in sight... So I told Ian about that as me and the kids were leaving and the kids overheard me telling him. Here is the conversation that ensued:

Mary: mommy I don't want to go over there.
Me: that dog isn't going to hurt you. It will probably be gone before we get there! But we will check and we won't get out if it's there.
Mary: well maybe L can just come in our car and we can do school in here.
Me: I'm not sure that would work. It will really be ok mare.
Mary: ok...well we could always call 911! They help.
Noah: oh yeah! Cause police mens always have great ideas!
...
Noah: or we could fight him!
Mary: no Noah we can't! It won't work because we don't have our swords!
Noah: that's ok Mary I'll protect you.

Bahahaha! What's he going to do? Wrangle the dog with his bare hands? The other day he did pick up a spider (with his hand...not even a tissue!) that freaked me out and threw it in the garbage. Taking care of mama. But on a positive note, she remembered about 911!

Quotable

Mary: mommy I don't want any more of this donut, so I think I'll throw it on the floor!
Me: um no, you know what to do with food that you don't want anymore
Mary: oh I know! (Runs over and puts the rest of her donut on Thomas' tray)
Thomas: (eats donut)

Well that's not what I was thinking but it works!

The princess turns 5

Look at this face!
Sometimes it's hard to believe that God gave me this amazing blessing! And to think, 5 years ago this was her:
Crazy. She has changed so much. At this age she is so fun. She loves to climb, jump, RUN everywhere she goes, read/look at books, and play with anyone who is up for it! She also loves the water and always asks when we can go to the water park (the neighborhood pool).

She loves her brothers, although she is now getting to a point where she wants to do things without them sometimes too. But they aren't with her on that yet, they still want to ALWAYS be with Mary.

She can do so many things for herself now, which is an awesome place to be as a mom. She just started her first soccer team and it is hilarious for the onlookers. The kids are all so excited and just run around like crazy people chasing a ball. I think kids just like to be together and running at the same time?

Most of the time she is very sweet and gentle. She loves to help her brothers (especially her baby T man) and she thinks of others often. Today we are going to lunch with GG and after soccer we will head over to flubs for a birthday treat! Hopefully she will feel very loved and appreciated on her big 5 birthday!

Quotable

Mary was SO excited to start soccer. Her excitement comes out in questions. About 100 of them. Here is an example...

Mary: mommy what will we do if it rains?
Me: you just play in the rain
Mary: or I have another idea! We could go on the concrete and jump in the puddles!
Noah: but mare you will have to take your shoes off to jump in the puddles
Mary: I can just bring my rain boots!

Good problem solving Mare.
